Stroud responds to news of planned Nazi meetings
AN OPEN LETTER OPPOSING NAZI MEETINGS planned to take place in Stroud on April 19th and 20th has been signed by over 400 people.
The organisations behind the open letter - Community Solidarity Stroud District (CSSD), the Radical Youth Space for Educations (the RYSE), Stroud Against Racism, and Stroud District Together With Refugees – are also calling for people to attend a public meeting on Saturday the 30th of March at the Trinity Rooms (details below) to discuss steps the community can take “to make their opposition to these Nazi meetings clear.”
The meetings, organised under the headings “Adolf Hitler – the REAL truth – The Man and the Myths” and “The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion – Blueprint for the 20th and 21st Centuries” are being organised by a group calling itself “Project Libertas” – and are due to happen at a local venue in central Stroud in April.
The venue has previously hosted a variety of controversial events and pulled out of hosting Katie Hopkins in September last year.
The advert for the events mentions that one of the meetings will take place on “The 135thAnniversary of Hitler’s birth.”
Freddie Janke, representing Stroud Against Racism:
“This is not satire, this is a nightmare reality. Two meetings attacking Jews are being held in Stroud. It is shocking and unacceptable. One meeting celebrates Hitler’s birthday, but if that isn’t bold enough, the other meeting will promote the Protocols Of the Elders of Zion - a fraudulent document from 1903 used by the Nazis and still being used today to incite antisemitism. ”
Roma Robinson, from the RYSE (Radical Youth Space for Educations), said:
“We need as many people as possible to make their opposition to these Nazi meetings clear. This is a community matter, and we all need to share ideas and work together to keep Nazi-sympathisers out of Gloucestershire.
Please join us from 3pm on Saturday the 30th of March at the Trinity Rooms for more information and to discuss what steps we can take as a community.”
Further information is available on on the Community Solidarity Stroud District website.
A public discussion will be held at The Trinity Rooms in Stroud on 30 March at 3pm.
